Donation for Our Projects

Sekyere, Ghana Community Revitalization Project

We are going to start a project called, 'Sekyere Ghana Community Revitalization Project' in May 2021. This is a project to create new values and opportunities in our organization's supporting community,  Sekyere.  Before starting a project planning, in order to make a project fitting in the community's situations, we repeatedly made interviews with people in Sekyere working for different sectors, such as Chief of Sekyere, Sekyere Traditional Council, Heads of Teachers in different schools in Sekyere, Medical Staff working in Sekyere Health Center, and even people in Sekyere. As a result of the researches, we found that the poverty that Sekyere has been suffering from for a long time of period is a common cause of all different types of social issues that the Sekyere community has. In order to tackle this serious issue, we will conduct a project by multifaceted approaches.

1. Agriculture

1. 1. ViVID Farm

We International NGO ViVID will hire some area of agricultural land from Chief of Sekyere and cultivate the fruit called pawpaw, as well as black eyed beans and okra. In the pawpaw plantation project, we will produce and sell processed products made from the pawpaw.

1.2. Agriculture Seminar

We will corroborate with Agricultural Extension Service and held agriculture seminars frequently. We believe it makes farmers in Sekyere more skilled and knowledgeable., leading to their income increase from their agriculture business. We also introduce new types of vegetables and fruits that Sekyere do not cultivate originally and bring new values and opportunities to Sekyere.

2. Education

Promotion of Career Education

We would like to make a joint project with junior high schools in Sekyere for the promotion. We will let children more motivated for learning for self-actualization.

3. Gender equality

3.1.  Productions of Sanitary Napkins
Also by collaborating with tailors in Sekyere, we will produce sanitary napkins for all females in Sekyere and also we will hold seminars to teach how to make sanitary napkins by themselves.

3.2. Sex Education
In Sekyere, there is a tendency that the rate of the dropout of female students from school is higher than that of male students. Some Head Teacher explained to us that it is because of gender inequality. We are going to hold several sex education seminars including male students.

Fight COVID-19 with ViVID

Phase III

Although the state of emergency is lifted and the restriction of movement has been loosened in Japan, the situation in Ghana has been tough until now. The new cases confirmed are around 200 cases per day (June 17, 2020), and it seems the situation has not been improving and will not improve soon.

If the situation is prolonged, the Sekyere community will be in need of an additional supply of soaps for veronica buckets, more medical supplies, and poverty measures. Therefore, as a phase III of the project “Fight COVID-19 with ViVID”, we are fundraising on this website to support the community until COVID-19 in Ghana is converged. We appreciate your support very much.

※ If there would be any leftover from this project, we would use them for another project which we work on. Thank you for your understanding.

Phase II

As a phase II of the project “Fight COVID-19 with ViVID”, we have done crowdfunding to provide veronica buckets (simple hand-washing facilities) and masks in Sekyere, Ghana. We aimed at getting 300,000 yen (around €2500), and thanks to the heartwarming support from many donors, we have got 332,500 yen (around €2700) and finished crowdfunding. As a result, we set 10 veronica buckets and we finished sewing and distributing about 900 masks to the people who might be at a higher risk of getting the virus such as elderly people or taxi drivers. Currently, tailors and people who are good at sewing in Sekyere are working hard to finish sewing masks so that the rest of community people from ages 2 to 49, about 3,700 people, in Sekyere can have the mask as soon as possible.

Phase I

The pandemic COVID-19 has been serious all over the world with no exception of Africa. According to Ghana Health Service, the number of cases confirmed had reached 834 by April 18th. Seeing that there were 408 cases on 11th, we can see that the number is rapidly increasing.)

As it happened the day before yesterday, the elder of the community, which we had just formed a tie-up this March, told us that the neighbor community had finally had the first case. They have requested our cooperation as a support group since Sekyere has a high risk of the spread of infection due to its poor hygiene.

However, since our organization is new, we have not started to raise funds even for our operating systems. Therefore, we would sincerely appreciate it if you could understand the situation of the partner community and our organization and ask you to help through donation.

Due to the emergency situation, we pay in advance about 20,000 yen to the medical institution Sekyere Health Center, where is only medical institution in Sekyere and where preparations for corona measures are extremely delayed.

This fund-raising activity is a joint project with midwives and nurses at the Sekyere Health Center. We will keep you updated about their control measures at the health center on our official Facebook! (www.facebook.com/ViVIDVillageJPN

We sincerely ask for your support. Thank you for your cooperation!

👪About Sekyere👩‍👩‍👦

Sekyere is a small village with 5,000 people, located outside of Kumasi, the second biggest city in Ghana. Katsumi had been in touch since he visited the village in 2011, and became the partner community when ViVID was established in 2020. In March, one of the members, Sion visited to conduct field research. There is no running water in Sekyere and people are not accustomed to wash their hands. Due to the lack of medical equipment, health center is unable to prepare treatment service, even to take prevention measures. Through this project, staff of Sekyere Health Center will distribute soap and sanitizer to community people and set veronica bucket around the village.

🏥Sekyere Health Center 🏥

Sekyere Health Center which we have launched a joint project with, was founded by Japan’s Official Development Assistance, and provides regular check up, medical treatment and delivery of people as the only medical agency in the community. It is now taking the central role in prevention of coronavirus. However, the health center is in serious short of financial resources, and unable to afford essential medical items for diagnosis such as thermometer, protective mask and glove, clothes for medical service personnel. The donation will be used to acquire minimum medical equipment for coronavirus prevention. In case there is a surplus money, we will donate it all to Sekyere Health Center for it to supplement medical equipment and improve medical services.
